One high profile football recruitment will not reach a conclusion when the Early Signing Period opens on Wednesday. Davison Igbinosun tells 247 Sports that he will wait to announce his collegiate decision at the All-American Bowl in January. While he may wait to publicly announce a decision, we still could hear good news well in advance of the Jan. 8 game in San Antonio.

A four-star prospect, Igbinosun is the No. 193 player in America according to the On3 Consensus rankings and the top-ranked player from the state of New Jersey. Igbinosun previously committed to Rutgers, the school 40-minutes from his hometown of Union where his brother plays college football. Along with Rutgers, Ole Miss is considered Kentucky’s top competition for the 6-foot-2, 170 pound safety.

Good News for Kentucky

The Wildcats were late to the party, waiting until October to offer a scholarship, but were quick to make Igbinosun one of their top priorities. Igbinosun was the first player Mark Stoops and Brad White visited in-person during the open recruiting period. The talented defensive back reciprocated shortly after with an official visit.

The week after his trip to Lexington, Igbinosun flew to Ole Miss for an official visit where he spent time posing with Lane Kiffin’s Porsche. Ole Miss has been perceived as the team to beat for a while. By delaying the decision, it gives Kentucky’s coaches more time to prove they should be his preferred destination. However…

Igbinosun could still Sign on Wednesday

Even though he will not publicly announce his decision on Wednesday, Igbinosun still plans on enrolling in school in January.

Technically speaking, Igbinosun does not need to sign a letter of intent. He can keep things quiet, announce his decision on national television and simply enroll in classes when the spring semester begins.

There’s another scenario that’s played out before and worked well for Kentucky. Vito Tisdale signed with Kentucky during the Early Signing Period, but at the four-star defensive back’s request, UK did not publicly share that information until after he chose the Cats weeks later during the All-American Bowl. In Vito’s case, even though the information was not public, it was a poorly kept secret among insiders that he would be a Wildcat.

Igbinosun will not share anything publicly during the Early Signing Period, but we could hear some positive or negative scuttlebutt in advance of his All-American Bowl announcement.
