Dazia Lawrence is taking on role as a facilitator in Kenny Brooks' offense
At Charlotte and even up until recently during her time at Kentucky, Dazia Lawrence has always been a score-first guard. She spent a lot of the time creating her own shot as a 49er, and as a Cat, she’s been on the receiving end of a Georgia Amoore dime or a dish from the post more often than not. However, her role has changed just a bit as of late.
Lawrence went through a four-game stretch in which she didn’t record a single assist, but in each of the four games since, she’s recorded at least five assists. Kenny Brooks spoke to why that could be the case following the WKU game.
“It’s kind of funny – what game was it? I yelled at her two games ago,” Brooks explained in a joking manner. “She missed an opportunity to pass the ball out, and she pulled up and she shot it. I didn’t yell, I just alerted her to another opportunity because we always want to get the best shot and ever since then, she’s been passing a lot.”
He then went on to explain that while there are some plays and some sets that would have Lawrence as the main facilitator, her willingness to share the basketball isn’t totally a product of Brooks coaching her.

Lawrence wants to do whatever it takes to get the Cats the win, ultimately.
“It’s not by design because we want her to shoot the basketball, but Georgia is being a little bit more aggressive with her shots, and she facilitates that,” Brooks noted. “We put in a couple plays that D-Law will be the facilitator for Georgia to be able to come off and catch and shoot, and the beauty is that Dazia’s been a scorer, and for her to come in here and just want to be a part of something special, it’s really refreshing because she’ll do whatever we ask her to do to help us win.”
