Sacramento Kings trade De'Aaron Fox to San Antonio Spurs
The NBA is having its very own blockbuster trade weekend as the calendar turns to February. A more expected trade involving a former Kentucky player occurred just one night after a stunning trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
De’Aaron Fox is getting out of Sacramento.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that this is a three-way trade between the Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, and Chicago Bulls. The Spurs receive De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin. The Kings receive Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks and three second-round picks. The Bulls receive Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and one draft pick.
A massive — but expected — transaction has been made in The Association.
De’Aaron Fox, 27, is averaging 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 37.0 minutes per game on .469/.322/.829 shooting splits. Fox was named an All-Star and earned third-team All-NBA honors in 2023, but the Kings have only made one playoff performance. Now the Western Conference franchise is pivoting away from their current core while another Western Conference franchise to ready to push their chips in.
The Spurs will now give young phenom Victor Wembanyama a sidekick and an outstanding pick-and-roll partner. San Antonio is four games under .500 this season, but this is a move made for the future. This proud franchise is all-in on Webanyama and Fox will now be a key piece as they look to contend for championships again in San Antonio.
