DeAndre Square named Co-SEC Defensive Player of the Week
The Southeastern Conference shipped another Player of the Week award to Lexington, this time to veteran linebacker DeAndre Square. On Monday, Square was named a co-recipient of this week’s SEC Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance in Saturday’s win in Lexington.
Against Mississippi State, the super-senior from Detroit recorded 11 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss before intercepting Will Rodgers’ last pass to clinch the victory for Kentucky. The interception was Square’s third of his career, his first of the season, and his first since he intercepted the final pass of last year’s Citrus Bowl.
In addition to his game-winning INT, Square moved closer to the 300-mark on the career tackles list. At 296, he needs four more to join the elite club.
Square shares the Defensive Player of the Week honor with Arkansas safety Hudson Clark.
