Wide receiver was always a position of need for the Kentucky football program in the 2025 recruiting cycle. We will likely see the program be aggressive in the transfer portal market once the winter portal window opens in December, but landing multiple high school prospects was a high priority for the Wildcats.

Kentucky suffered some bad news when high three-star Ja’Kayden Ferguson decommitted from the program on November 13 over five months after his original commitment. That left Kentucky with three high school commits — Quintin Simmons, Preston Bowman, and Montavin Quisenberry. The Wildcats have now found the replacement for Ferguson.

Dejerrian Miller has been in consistent contact with the Kentucky coaching staff throughout the recruiting process visiting in the spring and returning in June for an official visit. That has turned into a commitment.

The top-500 prospect committed to Kentucky on Tuesday. Miller becomes the 21st commit in the class and the ninth top-500 recruit. The St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter product compiled 124 receptions for 2,297 yards and 33 touchdowns during his final two seasons of high school ball.

How will the top-10 player in Missouri fit into the Kentucky offense? KSR’s Film Room is diving into the tape.

Vertical playmaking

Dejerrian Miller (6-3, 190) has prototypical X receiver size and is quite often lined up out wide by Cardinal Ritter and asked to win in isolation. The prospect has a sizable catch radius and can be a big target over the middle but his best work on tape is on vertical routes.

The newest Kentucky commit wins on gos, posts, fades, back shoulders, and consistently does a very good job of balltracking.

Miller wins on releases, long strides in the open field to hit another gear, shows good ball skills when facing tight coverage, and does a tremendous job of finding the football at the catchpoint.

Kentucky’s latest commit is a vertical play creator who wins on routes and with the ball in the air. There is a clear fit for this type of receiver in any offense.

Dejerrian Miller gives Kentucky some needed size

Dane Key has filled a big role for the Kentucky offense this season giving offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan a true X receiver who doesn’t always need separation to be open. The Wildcats have struggled to gain any traction in the passing game but Key has been a constant for the offense.

But there is not much size in the position room after that. Finding some big-bodied receivers who could win one-on-one and play into the boundary was a massive need for the program this recruiting cycle.

Dejerrian Miller checks that box.

The high three-star prospect was a highly productive player who ended drives in the paint. Miller does a good job getting off the line and flashes very good ball skills throughout his tape. The latest commit gives Kentucky a true X receiver and there could be an avenue for immediate playing time since there aren’t any other big-bodied receivers on the roster.

Kentucky latest commit checks the size and playmaking box at receiver.
