Dekel Crowdus a Kentucky Spring Practice Breakout Candidate
The Kentucky football team is on a brief spring break from spring practice. After one week of action, there’s one player we’ll be keeping a close eye on throughout the final dozen practice sessions, Dekel Crowdus.
The Lexington native was a huge recruiting win in the class of 2021. A four-star talent, the Frederick Douglass product was a top 50 receiver and the No. 292 ranked player in America, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Despite the hype, the BBN has yet to see much from Dekel Crowdus. The speedy wideout suffered a preseason knee injury ahead of his true freshman campaign and did not play in 2021. He played sparingly last fall, catching four passes for 82 yards. We saw his potential on one big play, a 50-yard reception on third down against Mississippi State.
Currently in the middle of a talented, crowded wide receiver room, he’s shown potential in the first week of spring practice.
“Dekel has so much talent,” Vince Marrow said on Wednesday’s Kentucky Sports Radio. “Dekel just needed to mature a little bit. He’s really, really getting up under himself. He’s fast, we all know that, but he can play three different positions. I think Dekel is really going to impact our team this year as a receiver.”

Analyst calls out Kentucky fans
He hasn’t just jumped out to the coaches. Quarterback Devin Leary likes what he has seen from Dekel Crowdus.
“You can see a lot of young talent and the best part about them being so young is the experience they already have – I mean Barion, Dane, Tayvion, Dekel and even all of our tight ends coming back all those guys have reps – that’s exactly what a quarterback’s best friend is,” Leary told Blue Chips Adam Breneman.
“But I think it’s really cool because those dudes come in every single day with a purpose to work and you see that every day. They’re not just going through the motions – they have a true purpose of what they want to get better at and just take it day by day. And for me to kind of help chime in with what I’ve done in the past and try to collaborate with those dudes, I mean, it’s going to be awesome.”
Dekel Crowdus has the talent and potential. This spring is the right time to put it all together and turn it into production for the Wildcats at Kroger Field this fall.
