Demarcus Cousins is not ready to trade in his jersey for a microphone full-time yet. The former Kentucky Wildcat, Olympic gold-medal winner, and four-time NBA All-Star, who is just 34 years old, signed with the Selenge Bodons of the Mongolian Basketball League for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

This is the first year in the Mongolian Basketball for the Bodons, which translates to “Bodies” in English but don’t stereotype them as a traditional American sports expansion team. They are 10-5 on the season and second in the overall standings. The addition of Cousins is a promise fulfilled by the team’s owner, who pledged to bring an NBA-caliber player to Mongolia and with it, the associated international attention.

Ahmad Gilbert, who graduated from St. Thomas University in 2020, is the only other American-born player on the roster. Cousins immediately becomes the tallest player on the team by four inches.

This isn’t the first time Boogie has joined a lesser-known international league mid-season. Cousins made headlines in 2023 when he signed with the Taiwan Beer Leopards, a notably much better nickname than the Bodons. Cousins led the Beer Leopards to the Taiwan League championship, something he hopes to duplicate in the Mongolian Basketball League.

When announcing his decision on Facebook, Cousins asked in the comments, “How cold is it [in Mongolia]?”

Never change, Boogie. Never change. And best of luck in your quest for another title on the world stage.
