DeMarcus Cousins is joining the Taiwan Beer Leopards
Here is a very fun sentence to write: DeMarcus Cousins is joining the Taiwan Beer Leopards.
That may sound like a beer pong team, but it’s an actual professional basketball team in Taiwan’s T1 League. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Cousins signed a 10-day contract with the squad, which includes four games. He is expected to join the team in mid-January.
The Taiwan Beer Leopards announced the news on social media late last night, including a video message from Cousins, who shared how excited he is to join the squad.
Cousins, who suffered a torn Achilles in the 2017-18 season, last played in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets in the 2021-22 season. Earlier this year, the four-time NBA All-Star played for the Guaynabo Mets of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional League in Puerto Rico, leading the team to the semifinals of the BSN playoffs. Cousins, now 33, is not giving up on his pro career just yet, even if it means playing in Taiwan.
“Being able to invite Cousins to perform in Taiwan is a big plus for the team’s strength and the entire basketball scene I believe his all-round skills can bring a different kind of chemistry to the Leopards,” the team’s CEO Johnny Chang said in the announcement. “Please stay tuned!”

Cousins will take the floor for the Beer Leopard’s games on Jan. 20, 21, 27, and 28. Last year, Dwight Howard played for the club, earning “Most Valuable Import” honors. He’s not on the roster anymore, but Cousins won’t be the only American. Former UCLA power forward Devin Williams, former Kent State forward Justyn Hamilton, and former George Washington shooting guard Lasan Kromah are also on the squad.
The Beer Leopards are 5-4 this season. They are also very festive!
