Devin Askew makes his reclassification to 2020 official

Kentucky basketball signee Devin Askew has officially completed his academic requirements needed to reclassify to the class of 2020.
According to a report by Steve Fryer of the Orange County Register, Askew has completed the necessary coursework to reclassify as a senior and is officially set to attend the University of Kentucky this fall.

Askew, who was a junior to start the 2019-20 season, added online classes this fall to make the reclassification possible.
Now officially considered a senior, the future Wildcat is on pace to graduate on time in the coming months.
“It’s been a lot of work,” Askew said, via Fryer, “and I’m still doing a lot of work now.”
In his final season at Mater Dei, Askew averaged 17 points, six assists, and five rebounds a game en route to a Trinity League title. Askew also helped the Monarchs advance to the CIF Southern Section Open Division championship game, where they fell to future Wildcat guard BJ Boston and his Sierra Canyon squad.
“I know he’s looking forward to the challenge and he’ll give it everything he’s got,” Mater Dei head coach Gary McKnight said of Askew. “I wish him the best of luck.”
Back in November, the University of Kentucky announced the surprise early signing of the five-star guard, an indication the program felt there would be no hiccups during the reclassification process for the 6-foot-4 guard.
“Devin is a winner who other players want to play with,” Calipari said at the time of Askew’s signing. “He has a team-first mentality and a maturity about him that you won’t find from many kids his age. He can make shots, he creates plays for himself and his teammates, and he is a willing defender with great size and length. Devin embraces the challenge of playing on this stage and has the makeup to be a special player.”
Askew joins the likes of five-star guards BJ Boston and Terrence Clarke, five-star forwards Isaiah Jackson and Lance Ware, and four-star wing Cam’Ron Fletcher in Kentucky’s 2020 recruiting class.
