Devin Askew Receives Eligibility Waiver to Play in 2022-23
Devin Askew will be on a college basketball court for the 2022-23 season.
The point guard was ranked as a five-star, top 30 prospect by ESPN when he signed with Kentucky. He started in 20 games during the Wildcats’ forgettable nine-win 2020 season and averaged 6.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.0 turnovers per game. Ready for a fresh start, he transferred to Texas. Things did not get much better under Chris Beard’s watch. His minutes were cut in half, starting in three games and scoring just two points per game.
Askew re-entered the transfer portal this offseason and returned closer to home in California to play for the Cal Golden Bears. NCAA transfer portal rules give players immediate eligibility after transferring once. Following the second transfer, they must sit out a season. That will not be the case for Askew. Jon Rothstein reports the point guard has received a waiver to play right away for Cal during the 2022-23 season.
Best of luck to Askew when he suits up for a former regular UK foe, Mark Fox. We’ll see you during Pac-12 After Dark.
