Devonte Ross Absent from Kentucky Football Preseason
The Wildcats did not receive perfect attendance when the Kentucky football team reported to preseason training camp. At UK football media day Mark Stoops revealed that wide receiver Devonte Ross has not yet made it to campus.
Ross was a signing day surprise for the Wildcats. Recruited by Anwar Stewart, Ross caught 115 passes for 2,389 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns in his prep career in Cartersville, Ga. Despite the gaudy stats and impressive resume, he was just a three-star prospect, primarily recruited by Marshall.
Ross was largely overlooked because of eligibility concerns. Many schools passed on the speedy wide receiver out of fear that he could not academically qualify. Those fears appear to have come to fruition, although there is still time for him to complete his academic requirements and report to campus. Stoops is hopeful Ross can pull a Lynn Bowden and make it to Lexington before the 2021 season kicks off.
