DJ Wagner earns SEC Freshman of the Week honors (again)
Not one, not two, but three times DJ Wagner has been named SEC Freshman of the Week this season for Kentucky — a milestone under John Calipari.
How? It’s the program’s 100th SEC Freshman of the Week honor since he arrived in Lexington ahead of the 2009-10 season.

Wagner now leads the conference in SEC Freshman of the Week honors, with Reed Sheppard (twice) and Aaron Bradshaw also earning the distinction at various points this season. This one comes after posting his first-career double-double in Kentucky’s win over Georgia, going for 18 points and a career-high 10 assists while shooting 8-12 overall. Before that, he helped lead the Cats to a 90-point effort vs. Mississippi State, most allowed by the Bulldogs all season. He had seven points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in that one, an average of 12.5 points and 6.0 assists per game on the week.
Wagner is now averaging 12.8 points, 3.8 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest, scoring in double-figures in 10 of 16 matchups with 12 games of at least three assists.
The Cats have now scored 90 or more points in four straight SEC games for the first time since 1994.
Overall, Kentucky now has more weekly SEC honors (131) than any other program under Coach Cal.
