DJ Wagner hits game-winning 3 one day after winning McDonald's All-American MVP
DJ Wagner is that dude.
Less than 24 hours after being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game in Houston, Wagner followed it up with a game-winning, stepback three-pointer in the first round of The Throne National Championship in Atlanta. Suiting up for the Camden (NJ) Avalanche, the five-star Kentucky signee hit the go-ahead triple with less than 10 seconds left on the game clock that pushed his team ahead 61-60 to down the Wheeler (GA) Wildcats.
Wheeler, which was without its own five-star guard Isaiah Collier, who also participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game on Tuesday night, failed to convert on the other end, pushing the Avalanche through to the tournament’s quarterfinals thanks to Wagner’s heroic shot.
Along with Collier, who sat out due to rest, Camden’s other five-star Kentucky signee, Aaron Bradshaw, also sat out. That didn’t seem to bother Wagner though, who played through tired legs down the stretch to hit another clutch shot. This kid just knows how to win.
