John Calipari is watching DJ Wagner ball out at Nike EYBL

It’s officially recruiting season in college basketball. That means John Calipari and his entire Kentucky coaching staff is putting the full-court press on No. 1 overall recruit DJ Wagner.
At the Nike EYBL, some of the best prospects in high school hoops are competing, and many coaches are in attendance. DJ Wagner is a prime recruit and Cal has been joined by Jai Lucas to see the top target on the program’s recruiting board put on a show.

Wagner, of course, is the son of former Memphis star Dajuan Wagner and grandson of Louisville legend Milt Wagner. The former played for John Calipari, and the latter was teammates with new Louisville head coach Kenny Payne. That means a Kentucky-Louisville recruiting battle is brewing for the five-star combo guard. The Cardinals will be coming hard after Wagner and Kentucky knows this. For the second time in a month, Calipari is on-hand to see the elite prospect. This is a major recruit of need for the Wildcats.
KSR’s Jack Pilgrim has boots on the ground for the grassroots event and will have more coverage hitting the website soon. Both Wagner and Reed Sheppard are playing against some of the top prospects in the country. The Wildcats have a commitment from the legacy recruit and are now attempting to prevent Wagner from becoming a legacy commit for archrival Louisville.
