Sports can give, and sports can take. And sports might have just taken a year of Dominika Paurová away from us.

In a third place game between Czechia and Iceland on Sunday, the 6-foot-1 Kentucky guard suffered an apparent knee injury just three minutes into the game. While the severity of the injury is uncertain at this point, the footage isn’t encouraging in the slightest.

Paurová was driving to the basket in transition, and in an effort to get around a defender, she started to step to the left, and that’s when the injury occurred. Instantly, she fell to floor, holding her knee and wailing in pain. Paurová was attended to for several minutes before being helped off the floor.

At the time of the injury, she had two points, two steals and an assist to her name.

Through seven games in the FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket, Paurová averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 steals and two assists in 21.4 minutes per game. She was a top-30 scorer in the whole event, and she was even 12th in steals as well.

Paurová had been performing above expectations during international competition, and things were looking very promising for the soon-to-be sophomore once she got to Kentucky.

Despite the loaded backcourt, Paurová was slated to be a key contributor on next year’s team. However, this injury certainly puts that into jeopardy.

Now, we just wait for official word on her injury status. Fingers crossed.
