Don't be surprised if Cutter Boley starts vs. Murray State
Kentucky will not play this Saturday. The banged up Wildcats are using the bye week to get healthy, but it may not be enough for Brock Vandagriff.
The Kentucky quarterback suffered a head injury in the second half of the loss at Tennessee. Mark Stoops has been unwilling to share if BVG will be able to recover in time to face next week’s FCS foe.
If Vandagriff is unable to go, who will start at quarterback for the Wildcats? Gavin Wimsatt has played in seven of the nine games, while Cutter Boley briefly appeared for a couple of drives at the end of a blowout loss to Florida. The former four-star, instate talent is only a true freshman, but Kentucky is invested in his future.
“He’s an option,” Stoops said when asked about Boley on Wednesday. “I’d like to see him just like I’d like to see a lot of the young guys.”
“Any game reps you can get somebody. Certainly, at the quarterback position it is important. We want to go look good, build on what we’ve done, and try to get better.”

Stoops was vague on the possibility that Boley would play. Matt Jones took it a step further on Friday’s Kentucky Sports Radio. Boley may not just receive reps, but earn his first career start at Murray State. Sources tell KSR that Boley has received most of the first team reps during bye week practices.
Big Blue Nation has only seen Boley in action for one game. The only pass he completed was to the other team, an interception that was returned to a touchdown. Boley wasn’t given much time to warm up while his team trailed by multiple scores in The Swamp. It’s safe to say he was not set up for success.
The story is much different for Boley now, with a bye week to receive reps with the ones, leading into a start against a 1-8 FCS team who doesn’t have one win in its conference. The ball really jumps out of his hands when he throws it. Next Saturday is an ideal opportunity to turn those flashes into consistency.
Kentucky plays Murray State next Saturday at 1:30 pm EST. Since it’s a non-conference game, will not receive an official injury prior to kickoff.
