BREAKING: Dontaie Allen puts his name in the transfer portal
Kentucky guard Dontaie Allen will explore his transfer options, officially entering the portal Thursday morning.
The redshirt sophomore announced his decision on social media, saying goodbye and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to play for his dream school.
“Wow. This journey has been like no other,” Allen said. “I can’t thank Big Blue Nation enough for embracing me unconditionally through the highs and lows. A kid from Kentucky given an unbelievable opportunity to play for his dream school. This wouldn’t feel right without thanking all of my coaches, brothers, the trainers, the staff, Big Blue Nation, and everyone who made my last three years so special. Lexington, Kentucky will forever be home.
“After much thought and consideration, I have decided to put my name into the transfer portal.”
Allen ends his career averaging 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest in two seasons in Lexington. This season, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged just 2.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game, shooting 29.4% from the field and 18.9% from three in 19 games played.

“Dontaie has been an incredible teammate and brought a lot to our program,” John Calipari said in a statement. “He battled to overcome an injury early and never let the adversity change who he was. Proud of you, Dontaie! Thank you for the last three years and I wish you nothing but success on your journey!”
His biggest moments came against Mississippi State in 2020-21, scoring 23 points in back-to-back games against the Bulldogs, knocking down 13 total 3-pointers. He finished his redshirt freshman season shooting 39.7% from three.
A four-star recruit out of high school, Allen was Kentucky’s first in-state signee since 2013. A star for Pendleton County, he was the eighteenth Kentucky player in program history to earn Kentucky Mr. Basketball honors. He finished his high school career with 3,255 points, which ranked 11th all-time in state history.
Best of luck to the Falmouth, KY native at his next stop.
