Doron Lamb was not the most highly-touted recruiting win during John Caliapri’s early run, but the two-guard from New York instantly played a huge role. The former top-25 recruit played in 78 games earning 49 starting assignments over his two years in Lexington. The two-and-done scored 1,018 points, poured in 144 three-point field goals on a .475 shooting percentage and helped Kentucky win a national title in 2012.

Doron Lamb has been out of college basketball for a dozen years, but his experience at Kentucky is not forgotten. On Thursday, the 33-year-old basketball pro jumped on Kentucky Sports Radio with Marquis Teague to promote their newly launched “Backcourt Connection” podcast. Lamb shared with Matt Jones and the crew how special his experience was in Lexington.

“It means a lot. This is one of my best two years here. For me to bring my best friend here with me too, so he can experience the whole thing I went through was great too. Playing with Marquis, Brandon Knight, two talented point guards. Backed them up and started beside them,” the former Kentucky player told Jones. “Played with great players like Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, (Michael Kidd-)Gilchrist, (DeAndre) Liggins, Darius Miller, Jorts (Josh Harrellson). I could keep going.”

“I had a great experience. Two Final Fours, national champion, SEC champion, 1,000-point scorer. So I had a great two years here.”

During those two years, Kentucky won 67 games, one SEC regular-season title, one SEC Tournament title, 10 NCAA Tournament games, and hung two banners at Rupp Arena. Doron Lamb was a key cog in the first big early run under Calipari. The sharpshooter who scored 22 points on 12 field goal attempts in Kentucky’s championship win over Kansas has always been a fan favorite. Lamb admitted just how special the Kentucky experience to him was on Thursday.

No. 20 will remain a fan favorite for a very long time in the Bluegrass.
