Doug Gottlieb to coach college basketball while still doing his radio show

Doug Gottlieb is a popular radio show host with Fox Sports, airing weekdays from 3-5 p.m. ET. “The Doug Gottlieb Show” has existed in some form since its ESPN Radio debut in 2006. Doug can also be found on various college basketball programs during the season, where he is a national analyst for the sport.

Still, that wasn’t enough for Gottlieb’s plate. He wanted to be even closer to the action, so Gottlieb will now coach basketball. The former Oklahoma State guard is reportedly the new hire at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. In Gottlieb’s first full-time coaching gig, he will take over coaching duties for the UWGB Phoenix following an 18-14 year and third-place finish in the Horizon League, replacing Sundance Wicks, who left for Wyoming after only one year on the job. Wicks was the 2024 Horizon League Coach of the Year and the Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year for turning around Green Bay after the Phoenix went 3–29 in 2022-23.

Now, for the crazy part: Gottlieb is expected to keep his weekday radio show as the head coach of a mid-major basketball program. How he will do that remains to be seen, but it will create a unique dynamic as he gives his daily opinions on sports while trying to lead his own team in the Horizon League. It seems like an impossible task to manage.

The good news for KSR: if Gottlieb successfully balances two jobs, it will open the door for Ryan Lemond to add head coaching responsibilities to his two hours a day on the airwaves. Kentucky Wesleyan, he is available when you’re ready.
