Douglass Dominates Madison Central; Sets up Top 5 Region Final with Lexington Catholic

After falling behind 11-7 early on, No. 4 Frederick Douglass used a 12-0 run bridging the first and second quarters to get ahead of No. 17 Madison Central. As a result, the Broncos rolled to a comfortable 74-55 win.
Playing in Richmond, KY in front of a large contingent of Madison Central fans, Armelo Boone keyed the spurt with 10 first-half points while Kai Simpson had a great second half and finished with 19 points, seven boards, and five assists. Sophomores Boone (14) and Aveion Chenualt (21) finished in double figures.
Jaylen Davis’ 17 first-half points kept Madison Central within shouting distance at the half (34-25) but the Broncos’ hot shooting continued after halftime. Davis finished with 27 points while Jayden West added 14 points, 10 boards, and an impressive dunk.
The key stat was that Douglass finished 9-for-16 from deep while the Indians were only 3-for-21.
Madison Central (19-15) could not overcome a short bench due to injuries and a starter leaving the team midway through the season. The Indians were the only team to defeat No. 1 Warren Central during the season and played one of the toughest schedules in the state.

Douglass (30-2) has now won 27 straight games and is one victory away from punching its first-ever Sweet 16 ticket in school history. The Broncos will play No. 2 Lexington Catholic on Monday night at Eastern Kentucky University in a highly anticipated matchup of 5 teams.
The Knights (32-2) knocked out No. 10 Great Crossing (28-6) 48-42 in the second semifinal of the day. Tyler Doyle (15 points) and Reece Potter (13) finished in double figures for the Knights.
