Since John Calipari arrived at Kentucky in the spring of 2009, the halls of Rupp Arena and the Joe Craft Center have been littered with a who’s who of basketball and entertainment greats. Lebron, Magic, Wale, HUTCHERSON, and more have made their presence known in Lexington. However, maybe the biggest name has also become the most vocal celebrity supporter of the Wildcats in Aubrey Graham, known as “Drake” to probably everyone who didn’t name him personally. Drake’s many celebrity friendships makes supporting any one team hard enough, and for that he has caught a lot of flack for being an alleged bandwagoner. He did however, make it clear yesterday in an interview with Complex Mag that while he may have a lot of friends and individuals that he roots for, only 2 teams truly have his rooting interest.

“Well, first of all, I’d like to say that despite what everyone on the Internet thinks, I do not team jump. In the past I’ve always supported the player and not the institution–unless we’re talking about the Kentucky Wildcats and the Toronto Raptors; I will never stray from them. But whether it comes to soccer or football or basketball, I have a lot of friends that play for a lot of teams. I’m not team jumping. I’m a supportive friend.”

If Drake wasn’t already a card-carrying certified member of the Big Blue Nation by now, I think it’s about time. It can’t hurt recruiting when the guy who has been dominating the hip-hop and R&B charts for the better part of the last decade is a huge fan of your team. I guess we can chalk this up to the #KentuckyEffect.

To be a full member of BBN though, basketball can’t be your only vibe. How about #GetDrakeToCommonwealth?
