Dre'Una Edwards set to return for Kentucky WBB; Jazmine Massengill out

Poor injury luck and a tightened schedule have Kentucky Women’s Basketball (9-8; 2-5 in SEC) on the ropes midway through the SEC slate. But luckily for the Wildcats, Sunday’s matchup against No. 12 LSU will mark the return of a critical player.
Kentucky’s second-leading scorer, Dre’Una Edwards, WILL be available to play after not being with the team for the last four outings due to suspension. The redshirt junior is a key component to what makes UK click, averaging 15.9 points and 7.7 rebounds on 53.3 percent shooting prior to her suspension. Edwards has not played since Jan. 16 against Tennessee.
Additionally, Kentucky will see the return of Treasure Hunt, who sat out the team’s most recent outing against Vanderbilt due to an undisclosed injury. Freshman walk-on Kristen Crenshaw-Gill will also be available to play after an injury sidelined her for the last few games.

Unfortunately, Kentucky will still be without senior guard Robyn Benton, who went down with an ankle injury against Florida on Jan. 20. The team’s third-leading scorer has no timetable for a return. The biggest surprise, however, is the loss of starting point guard Jazmine Massengill due to concussion protocol. She suffered the injury during the Vanderbilt game and has subsequently been ruled out for Sunday’s outing.
Benton averages 10.4 points per game while shooting 47.8 percent overall and 35.5 percent from distance. Massengill leads UK in assists with 67 while averaging 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per outing on 44.1 percent shooting from the field. Missing them will surely hurt Kentucky, but the return of Edwards and Hunt should help lessen the blow.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST on the SEC Network.
