Safety was a position of need for the Kentucky football program in the 2025 recruiting cycle. With Zion Childress and Kristian Story entering their final season of eligibility, the Wildcats needed to backfill the room with some young talent. The program got landed its second commit at the position on Monday.

Demopolis (Ala.) High safety Dyllon Williams decommitted from Missouri on Oct. 11 and committed to Kentucky three days later. The three-star prospect committed to the Tigers in June and also had official visits scheduled with Cincinnati and Ole Miss previously in this recruitment.

What is Kentucky getting in the safety prospect? Dyllon Williams is a long, rangy safety prospect who plays a physical brand of football.

Range and physicality

Dyllon Williams wore multiple hats as a junior at Demopolis High play both cornerback and safety. No matter the position on defense, the 2025 prospect brings legitimate positional size and length to the field. Williams looks like one of the tallest players on the field and has very long arms. The three-star recruit checks a physical traits box but he also puts that size and frame to good use.

The latest Kentucky commits show physicality and range on tape. Two play traits you must have at the safety position.

Throughout the tape, Dyllon Williams plays with good eyes and a quick trigger. The defensive back prospect shows good play recognition and gets downhill in a hurry. Williams is not afraid to stick his face in the fan. There is some power behind his pads.

At safety, Williams shows off his long strides as a pursuit defender and can get from hash to hash in a hurry. Despite being a tall player, Williams does a good job of sinking his hips and playing with leverage upon contact. That will give him a chance to develop into a strong tackler at the next level.

Coverage skills are still unknown, but Dyllon Williams is an instinctual and physical football player who can cover a lot of ground in a hurry.

More size at safety

Kentucky will enter the 2025 season with some unproven depth at safety, but the Wildcats have clearly gotten bigger at the position. One signing class after adding a tall and long safety (Cam Dooley) in Alabama, we saw the Wildcats go to the same area and find another long and rangy defensive back prospect.

Dyllon Williams has some clear physical traits that are hard to find and shows the flexibility on tape that could make the 2025 commit an excellent tackler and pursuit defender. Williams flashes good play recognition and appears to have the long stride speed to potentially become an effective post safety player in deep coverage.

Kentucky has gotten out the spatula to complete an SEC flip for a prospect with an intriguing toolbox.
