Ed Orgeron, LSU have been elite underdogs
Ranked Kentucky is all set to host unranked LSU on Saturday night. Surprisingly, the Wildcats are a small home favorite over the Bayou Bengals.
This is a spot where Ed Orgeron and his LSU typically perform their best.
Since taking over in Baton Rouge, Orgeron and the Tigers are now 7-0 against the spread (ATS) and with five straight-up wins as a road underdog. That is getting the job done away from Tiger Stadium.
In his first season, Orgeron and his squad suffered a deflating home loss to Neal Brown’s Troy squad as a 20-point home favorite. The Tigers responded the next week by beating Florida in Gainesville as a one-point road dog.
In 2018, LSU began SEC play as a 10-point dog heading to the Plains. LSU responded with a great effort and beat the Tigers with a last-second field goal.
While running the table in 2019, LSU found itself as a six-point dog on the road playing No. 2 Alabama. The Tigers responded with a masterful offensive performance on their way to a 46-41 win.

Last season, LSU went to The Swamp and were 23-point underdogs against No. 6 Florida. The Tigers were sitting on a 3-5 record with a roster that had been gutted by COVID-19. Despite all of that, the Tigers found a way, and Cade York’s 57-yard field goal in the fog gave us one of the biggest upsets of the college football season.
Fast forward to this week, and LSU is a road underdog for the first time this season. Every season under Ed Orgeron, the Tigers have pulled off at least one upset. Kentucky will look to avoid that fate on Saturday night.
Since 2016, Kentucky is 5-6 ATS as a home favorite of a touchdown or less with a few straight-up losses. The Wildcats must avoid an upset on Saturday night to set up a monster game in Sanford Stadium next week.
Can Mark Stoops and the Wildcats end another streak?
