Emoni Bates will announce tomorrow. But is his choice already known?
2021 five-star wing Emoni Bates will make his final announcement on Wednesday, 247Sports’ Travis Branham is reporting. The 6-foot-8 small forward will choose between Memphis, Michigan State, Oregon and the NBA G League.
As for the likely destination, a growing consensus has formed rather quickly. Nine straight Crystal Ball picks and five consecutive FutureCasts have come in favoring the Tigers, where he would join fellow five-star prospect Jalen Duren in Memphis.
To add fuel to the fire, it was discovered this week that Bates’ name has been added to Memphis’ university email directory. While it’s not a direct indicator the five-star prospect has enrolled, he has at least taken the steps necessary to apply to the school and has been accepted.

It should also be noted that the first day of classes for Memphis students was Monday. The last day for late registration is Thursday, August 26, meaning a decision had to come this week if the choice was/is Memphis.
Bates is ranked No. 4 overall in 2021 by the 247Sports Composite. ESPN lists him at No. 3 overall, while Rivals and 247Sports have him ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Will Bates join Duren in Memphis? We’ll find out for certain on Wednesday.
