Every Word From "Everytime We Touch," Duke's Fight Song

Duke has a lot of weird traditions, but none as weird as its obsession with a German techno song about two horned up lovers touching and kissing each other.

“Everytime We Touch” by Cascada, a Eurodance trio, is the Blue Devils’ anthem. It’s played at every home basketball game and the Cameron Crazies lose all inhibitions when it comes on. Remember that video of Grayson Allen tripping out to Cascada at Countdown to Craziness in 2017?

Not just for basketball, Duke University invited lead singer Natalie Horler to sing with the graduates at Duke’s virtual graduation last year. It’s clear they are all in on the techno song that made it all the way up to fifth on the German charts in 2005.

Duke’s Cascada love reached peak weirdness today when it was Coach K’s walk-out song for a press conference to announce his retirement after 42 years as the head coach of the Blue Devils. A monumental moment for the sport and for one of the all-time greats, and the house speakers were blasting, “I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me.” A 74-year-old Hall of Fame coach was raising the roof to “every time we kiss I reach for the sky” before he sat down to announce he is stepping down after four decades.

It gets really weird reading the full song lyrics in print, the reason we’re here right now having this conversation. Read these lyrics and then look me in my eyes and tell me with a straight face that they’re not paying players to pretend this is cool:
