BARION BROWN FILM ROOM

Barion Brown is a top-50 prospect in the class of 2022 that many programs in college football wanted.

Mark Stoops and his coaching staff are attempting to raise the ceiling of Kentucky football. How is that accomplished? By collecting some big boy recruiting wins.

The latest could have a seismic impact on the program.

On Thanksgiving Eve, the speedster out of Nashville (Tenn.) Pearl-Cohn High ended his recruitment with a commitment to Kentucky. The 6-1 wideout picked the Wildcats over Alabama, Ole Miss, and TCU. Liam Coen just landed someone that can make a huge first-day impact on his offense.

What will Barion Brown bring to Lexington? Step into the KSR Film Room to find out.

When turning on the tape and watching the first play, it does not always tell the whole story. In the case of Barion Brown, it is really all you need to see.

The wide receiver target with a track background has 4.4 caliber speed, and that is shown off on special teams. On the punt, Brown scoops up the short kick, makes about three violent cuts, and explodes into a full sprint to pull away from the defense.

Hand-eye coordination, wiggle, quickness, acceleration, and top-end speed are all shown off in one rep. The total package that Brown possesses jumps off the screen.

In Liam Coen’s first offense at Kentucky, the new offensive coordinator has not been rigid in how his playmakers receive the ball. Coen has done a great job generating touches for Wan’Dale Robinson, and the former top-100 recruit is putting together a highly productive season because of it.

Barion Brown has a similar skill set and can make plays from anywhere on the field. The offensive weapon just needs the ball in his hands.

On the jet sweep pop pass, Brown makes another quick cut to get to the perimeter and then flashes some explosive acceleration to create a huge chunk play. The secondary players have the correct pursuit angles, but it doesn’t matter against a player with this kind of electric speed.

The blue-chip receiver is a big play waiting to happen. Brown just needs the ball in space.

At the next level, Kentucky will be relying on that speed to make an impact in the vertical passing game. The Wildcats need a speedster who can get open deep down the field. Brown has all of the traits to be an impact player in the big play department.

On the go ball, Brown creates some easy separation with his raw speed and then flashes some strong ball skills to pull in the grab. Afterward, his yards after catch ability is shown off as he finishes the play in the endzone. There are a ton of traits this high four-star brings to the table.

Mark Stoops has talked about the need to find some more no doubters on the recruiting trail. Barion Brown qualifies as that.

The top-50 recruit has electric playmaking potential with plenty of room for growth as a prospect. However, his top-notch speed and ability to make plays with the ball in his hands is something that just cannot be taught. In high school, the prospect showed unique versatility as he starred in the return game and as a wildcat quarterback. The skill talent prospect has a lot to be excited about moving up to the next level.

Brown is the state champion in Tennessee in both the 100 and 200 meters. That shows up on tape with what appears to be legit 4.4 speed on the football field.

Upon arrival, the high four-star in the On3 Consensus will need improvements at the craft of playing wide receiver. However, this is a player that must get some playing time as a true freshman.

How do you raise your recruiting ceiling? Landing a top-100 recruit at a position of need is one way to do it.
