Film Room: Brandon White
Let’s play some Yahtzee to kick off the month of October as Cincinnati Moeller wide receiver Brandon White pledged to the Wildcats on Friday.
The three-star recruit picked Kentucky over West Virginia, and the 5-foot-9 wideout brings some big-time speed to the table. White has been clocked at 4.28 in the 40-yard dash and 10.3 in the 100 proving that speed is one of the biggest traits this class of 2022 member will bring to the table.
Brandon White joins high school teammate Josh Kattus in the signing class for Kentucky as the Wildcats look to bolster their passing attack with more speed. How does that speed play out on the field? Come into the KSR Film Room to find out.
To begin his senior season playing for the Crusaders, White has nine receptions for 243 yards and three touchdowns. The speedster can get behind the defense with ease.
When showing interest in a wide receiver with track speed, that ability needs to transfer over to the football field. Where will it stand out the most? On vertical routes.
Working out of the slot, Brandon White gets man coverage on the fade route. As expected, his speed takes care of the rest. The small wide receiver zooms past the defender and then does a nice job tracking the location of the football for the splash play reception. This is a player that can be a man coverage beater by himself due to the elite speed he possesses.
With Liam Coen calling the shots in Lexington, the jet sweep is always going to be a big part of the offensive package. This action is a nice counter to some of the other runs in Kentucky’s scheme and helps keep a defense honest. However, receivers must have the speed to make this a productive staple of the offense.
Brandon White has that ability.
Not only is White fast, but the 2022 prospect has a quick burst and impressive acceleration. The wideout can get to top speed quickly, and that will make him a quality option to use on motions and jet sweeps during his playing career.

In Kentucky’s new offense, the Wildcats have made it clear that facing press-man coverage will no longer be an issue. However, speed and release ability is needed to beat it consistently. Coen and his offensive staff are targeting players who can get off the line of scrimmage and beat secondary players over the top. Brandon White’s best attribute is his ability to get off the line.
The slot receiver once again burns by the nickel cornerback and tracks the football for a big play on the slot fade. The speed is great, but receivers must have the acceleration to get off the line of scrimmage. White has that to go along with some good ball skills on tape.
Despite signing seven receivers over the last two classes, that group still remains a position of need for Kentucky. With Brandon White’s commitment, the Wildcats now have three wideouts in the class of 2022. Each brings the same top trait to the table.
Vertical speed.
There will be questions about White’s fit in the offense, but Coen has made it clear that speed will be the most important attribute. The Cincinnati Moeller senior has more than enough to be a factor in the SEC. Some development time is needed and work in the weight room will be required, but the skillset is there to turn into something.
Speed cannot be coached and it is needed to consistently produce explosive plays in the passing game. Brandon White has it.
