FINAL: Kentucky Women’s Basketball destroys North Alabama 98-56
Kentucky Women’s Basketball defeated the North Alabama Lions 98-56 on Thursday evening in Memorial Coliseum. The ‘Cats included two new players in the starting lineup: Robyn Benton and Treasure Hunt.
For the second time in as many games, Dre’Una Edwards led the ‘Cats to victory with 27 points and five rebounds. Here’s what went down in Kentucky Women’s Basketball’s second victory of the season.
Inconsistent first half for Kentucky WBB
The first half was a game of runs. While the ‘Cats were always ahead, they were never comfortable. The team shot a mediocre 37.8% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc through 20 minutes. While the ‘Cats didn’t play well as a team, Benton was making the most of her first start this season.
Benton led the ‘Cats with nine points and three rebounds heading into halftime. Typical team leaders Rhyne Howard and Edwards added a combined 15 points to the ‘Cats total, as well.
Kentucky’s press caused nine first-half turnovers for North Alabama, but it also led to easy fast-break buckets. Specifically, both Patrycja Jaworska and Macey Lee had 10 points for the Lions by the intermission. The ‘Cats led the Lions 35-31 after the first half.

‘Cats control second half
For the second night this week, Kentucky dominated the third quarter. The ‘Cats dropped a school-record 36 points in the third frame; more than their first-half total of 35. After Kentucky’s offensive explosion, the Lions could never recover. Kentucky pulled away to a 98-56 victory over North Alabama.
Statistically, Kentucky finished the game shooting a much-improved 51% from the field. Additionally, the ‘Cats snagged a ridiculous 24 offensive boards. While Edwards led the Wildcats with her 27 points, she certainly wasn’t alone in her success.
Jada Walker (13), Benton (14) and Howard (20) each added double-digit totals of their own to the Wildcats’ 98-point tally. While Kentucky’s first two games were successes, the biggest challenge of the week lies just ahead of them. Kentucky will play #8 ranked Indiana away on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
