Memorial Coliseum was one giant party as the Big Blue Nation cheered on multiple eras of former Kentucky Wildcats.

La Familia cruised past Stroh’s Squad on Friday night in the opening round of The Basketball Tournament, pulling out a 105-52 win and advancing to Sunday’s second-round game in the process. Archie Goodwin led all scorers with 19 points to go along with his eight assists and seven rebounds.

Aaron Harrison and Kahlil Whitney chipped in 14 points each while Doron Lamb knocked down a trio of three-pointers. Ansley Almonor, who played under Mark Pope last season at Kentucky, hit the Elam Ending game-winner, a three-pointer over the top of his defender.

The former Wildcats were clearly the deeper and more talented team, but it didn’t show until a dominant second-half performance. La Familia outscored Stroh’s Squad by 38 points after halftime, finishing the night shooting 54.9 percent from the field and 11-27 from long range. Kerem Kanter rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points and six rebounds, while Marques Warrick contributed seven points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

With the win, La Familia moves on to face War Ready (Auburn alums) on Sunday. Tipoff back inside Memorial is set for 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

From the opening tip, there was an obvious talent disadvantage. Goodwin drilled a three-pointer less than 10 seconds into the game, and La Familia was off to the races from there. Head coach Sean Woods was utilizing his entire bench, which gave the fans a chance to let out giant cheers for their favorite former ‘Cats whenever they’d check in.

By the end of the first quarter, La Familia held a 24-11 lead with Goodwin controlling the flow on offense. Stroh’s Squad made a second-quarter run, trimming its deficit down to as few as seven points, but the UK alums kicked it into gear once again. Lamb splashed in a couple of three-pointers (hitting the three goggles on his way back) with Whitney contributing some points of his own. La Familia was up 44-29 at the break, Goodwin leading the way with 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The game quickly got out of hand in the second half, allowing the Kentucky fans to have some fun as La Familia began to live in transition and at the rim. It was 78-41 in favor of the home team going into the fourth quarter. The makeshift dunk contest continued into the fourth quarter. La Familia went into the Elam Ending leading 97-50 before Almonor closed out Stroh’s Squad for good in the final segment.
