FINAL: Rhyne Howard's triple-double leads Kentucky WBB to 92-47 win
Rhyne Howard recorded the third-ever triple-double in Kentucky Women’s Basketball history on Sunday afternoon. And oh yeah, the No. 19 ‘Cats (3-1) cruised to a blowout win, beating the Winthrop Eagles (0-4) 92-47 in Memorial Coliseum.
Howard finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in 28 minutes of action, along with five steals. She played just the first few minutes of the fourth quarter so she could reach the triple-double mark before sitting on the bench the rest of the way.
Makayla Epps (Nov. 2015) and Leslie Nichols (Feb. 1986) are the only other two players in Kentucky WBB history to record a triple-double. Howard is also the school’s sixth all-time leading scorer.
Contrasting the first two home games, Kentucky got off to a hot start against Winthrop. UK jumped to a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back. Ahead 14-6 halfway through the first period, the ‘Cats rattled off an 11-0 run to blow the game wide open. Winthrop added a couple of buckets before the buzzer, but still trailed 25-14 heading into the second frame.

From there, it was nothing but the ‘Cats. Kentucky won the second quarter in dominant fashion, 25-8, before running away with the third period 27-10. UK scored at least 25 points in each of the first three quarters before finishing off the Eagles in the fourth.
The final frame didn’t provide much for theatrics once Howard hit the triple-double. Kentucky and Winthrop tied the last 10 minutes at 15 apiece, but it sealed the 92-47 victory for UK.
Dre’Una Edwards added 20 points and seven rebounds for the ‘Cats while Treasure Hunt contributed 11 points and eight boards. Robyn Benton and freshman Jada Walker also finished in double-figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
