First Down Kentucky: Wide Receivers Creating Chemistry with BVG
Kentucky football players dedicate this time of the year to getting bigger, faster, and stronger in the weight room. In addition to the basics of strength and conditioning, it’s the first opportunity for wide receivers to get acquainted with their new quarterback, Brock Vandagriff.
A few times a week the quarterback and his pass-catchers will spend time throwing routes-on-air in the Nutter Field House. This is when the receivers learn how to catch the type of ball Brock throws and the timing of certain routes. It’s early, but creating chemistry between the two starts now.
“We start to get the connection with the quarterbacks during this time,” said WR Ja’Mori Maclin. “All quarterbacks throw different, to when I’ve been at Mizzou, North Texas, and now here. All of the quarterbacks throw different so it’s good to get that chemistry going.”
Ray Cottrell added, “Brock has an amazing arm, the best arm I’ve probably ever seen from a quarterback and I’ve seen a lot of quarterbacks, believe it or not. Brock is a leader. He’s not a selfish guy at all. You can tell that he really loves his guys, especially his receivers. He really loves us.”
Maclin had his eyes opened by a few long balls Brock delivered in January.
“I’ve seen him throw a couple deep balls to Barion Brown. Barion’s fast, it’s kinda hard to overthrow him and he overthrew him a few times. He’s got a pretty good arm.”

Greg Sankey Speaks
The SEC commissioner has been in the news quite a bit over the last few weeks. He joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday to paint a clearer picture of what’s happened. The SEC and Big Ten have often been at odds throughout the recent changes in college sports, but those were set aside as he grew more frustrated with the lack of progress in CFB Playoff meetings. It resulted in the formation of a new Big Ten-SEC Advisory Committee.
Sankey does not want this advisory committee to circumvent the NCAA, but rather expedite the inevitable changes happening across the landscape of college athletics. ” (We want to) introduce some new perspective, new ideas, some new thinking or maybe even more importantly help cut through the bureaucratic tape we face so often in college athletics.”
Kentucky Wildcats Back in Town
The current Wildcats aren’t the only ones who have started offseason strength and conditioning programs. Wan’Dale Robinson is back in Kentucky and his former running mate Josh Ali joined him at his father’s gym for a workout. You love to see it.
The Wrong Randy Moss
We all know Randy Moss, the Hall of Fame wide receiver from West Virginia who might be the best player to ever play the position. During Super Bowl week on Radio Row in Las Vegas, one CBS Sports Network producer thought he was booking the all-time great for a guest appearance. Instead, he booked the white Randy Moss who is on our TVs every spring covering the Triple Crown for NBC.
