Here are five things you need to know about Middle Tennessee State’s redshirt senior quarterback…

He is the head coach’s son

Rick Stockstill is coaching his 13th season as the head coach of the Middle State Blue Raiders and five have been spent coaching his son. However, Brent Stockstill originally committed to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He quickly regretted the decision and decided to stay home and play for his dad.

He is MTSU’s all-time leading passer

Stockstill became Middle Tennessee’s all-time leading passer last season. In four years, he has passed for 11,249 yards and 98 touchdown passes.

He threw for a career-high against Western Kentucky

Stockstill threw for a career-high 434 yards against Western Kentucky as a redshirt sophomore. He completed 42-of-54 attempts in the Blue Raiders 44-43 2OT loss to the Hilltoppers in 2016.

He has battled injuries his entire career

Stockstill has missed nine games due to injuries. As a junior, he missed six games because of a cracking his sternum. He returned and lead his team to a win at the Camellia Bowl for a 7-6 record. As a sophomore, he missed three games with a broken collarbone.

In high school, he tore his ACL and suffered a right shoulder injury.

“It’s a competition with myself not to let anything stop me,” Stockstill said of his injuries. “Just from a young age I just always remember kind of loving the pain, loving the hurt and then embracing that and still trying to play at a high level. And I kind of carry it over here in college.”

He wants to get into coaching

After his football career is over, Stockstill wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a football coach.

“At first, I discouraged him when it comes to coaching,” Rick Stockstill said at Conference USA media days. “As he got older, that was his passion and goal. I started to encourage him. He has been around coaching all his life and understands the highs and lows and the time away from family.”
