Florida's Keyontae Johnson hospitalized after collapse on court
If you’ve been watching college basketball today, you’ve seen the news that Keyontae Johnson, Preseason SEC Player of the Year, collapsed during Florida’s game vs. Florida State. He was taken off the floor on a stretcher and is in the hospital in critical but stable condition, per a Florida spokesperson.
The AP is reporting that Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 over the summer, prompting speculation that today’s incident may be linked to the virus.
Like most of his teammates, Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 during the summer. Although the cause of Johnson’s ailment was not immediately known, the coronavirus can lead to myocarditis, a viral infection of the heart muscle. At its most severe, myocarditis can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and has been a documented cause of death for young, otherwise healthy athletes.
For Johnson’s sake, let’s hope this is nothing serious and he has a swift and easy recovery.
