Would-be incoming freshman tight end, Jakob Dixon, left the Kentucky football team in June before practices even began. He has now found a new home just down in Richmond, as Dixon announced on Saturday via Twitter he will be attending Eastern Kentucky University.

Originally from Louisville out of Pleasure Ridge High School, Dixon was a low-key three-star prospect who turned the heads of the Kentucky coaching staff during camp last summer. A week later he returned, repeated the performance, and earned a scholarship offer from the Wildcats. He is a multi-sport athlete, excelling in both basketball and track & field, but ultimately chose football to pursue collegiately. He considers himself a hybrid between a tight end and wide receiver.

At 6’5″ and 200 pounds, Dixon was one of three tight ends in the 2023 class. He will now be joining former Kentucky standout, CJ Conrad, who recently made the move 30 minutes south himself to take over EKU’s vacant tight end coach position.

Conrad was part of the recruiting process for Dixon so this feels like a great fit.

If social media comments are any indication, EKU will at least not be as bad of a fit for Dixon as it was with the ‘Cats. For better or worse, sometimes guys just don’t gel from the start and that appears to be the case with a few of his former pass-catching teammates. Transferring to Eastern was likely the best outcome for all parties.

Best of luck to Dixon as he suits up for the Colonels.
