Former Kentucky guard Dontaie Allen, now at WKU, reportedly enters transfer portal
Dontaie Allen is on the hunt for his third school.
According to Travis Branham of 247Sports, Allen has entered his name into the transfer portal for the second time in his college career. The 6-foot-6 native of Falmouth, KY spent his first three seasons at Kentucky (the first as a redshirt) and then the last two at Western Kentucky.
Allen will have one year of eligibility remaining.
At Pendleton County High School, Allen was tabbed Mr. Kentucky Basketball in 2019 and was considered a top 100 recruit in the country before landing with the in-state Wildcats. Various injuries prevented him from playing his freshman season at UK, but he was cleared and healthy enough to suit up for his redshirt freshman campaign.
Over his two on-court seasons (2020-21 and 2021-22) with the ‘Cats, Allen appeared in 41 total games, including one start. He averaged 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.5 minutes per contest. During his time in Lexington, he was best known for stepping up Mississippi State. As a redshirt freshman, Allen dropped 23 points on two separate occasions against the Bulldogs, the second coming in the SEC Tournament.
Allen would then enter his name into the transfer portal during the 2022 offseason, ultimately sticking in the Bluegrass by landing with WKU. As a junior in 2022-23, he averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 20.9 minutes per contest, starting 11 of his 26 games played. At one point, he had a stretch of scoring 22 points or more three times over a four-game stretch.
