Former Kentucky linebacker Marquez Bembry transfers to UConn

Another Portal ‘Cat has found himself a new home. Marquez Bembry is now a UConn Huskie.

During Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Bembry, who spent the last three seasons in Lexington at outside linebacker, officially signed with the University of Connecticut. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound native of Stone Mountain, GA played in all 12 regular-season games for Kentucky in 2021, totaling nine tackles, one of which was for a loss.

Bembry put his name in the transfer portal back on Dec. 13 and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Bembry, who graduated from UK in May 2021, initially came to Kentucky ahead of the 2019 season as a sophomore. He previously played one season at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi, where he was considered a high-level 4-star JUCO prospect. According to On3, he was the No. 50 prospect nationally, No. 5 edge rusher, and No. 8 recruit in the state of Mississippi.

Across his three seasons with the ‘Cats, Bembry was never able to get onto the field for extended snaps despite making 24 appearances. His best outing was a 10-tackle performance against Vanderbilt back in 2020. He even started that game along with the matchup against Alabama the same year, the only two starts of his college career. Bembry leaves Kentucky having totaled 37 tackles, 1.0 for loss, along with one quarterback hurry.
