KSR Catches Up with Ray Davis After Exceptional Rookie Season with the Bills

Ray Davis was so close to the Super Bowl he could feel it. Actually, that was just the bitter cold in Buffalo.
The former Kentucky running back has never been too far from Lexington. Even during his rookie year with the Bills, he was frequently spotted at Kentucky basketball and football games. On Tuesday, he was at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility in a different capacity, interviewing players and coaches at UK Pro Day.
In between his obligations, Davis was kind enough to spend five minutes chatting with Kentucky Sports Radio. Even though he only spent one year in Lexington, he feels a close connection to the University of Kentucky that keeps bringing him back.
“It’s just home,” Davis said. “There was a phrase that I heard, it’s like a scholarship for life here. Understanding that what you do on the community, what you do on the field, and how you portray yourself to others, that just shows this was home. This is a place where I can come back and people will always show me love, and I can show love back.
“Coming to those games, my first-ever basketball game was against Vandy when I was here (as a player) in the spring. I was up at the top. I remember looking at my sister and I go, ‘I’m going to make sure I do good things so I can be down there at the bottom.’ Fast forward a couple of months later, and I was able to make that come true. It was all about making sure I lay some roots here that can live on forever.”

If you ever see Ray Davis around town, don’t be shy. He loves interacting with BBN, especially when they bring up his big game against Florida or the Ls Down he put right in Jack Harlow’s face at Louisville. There’s one other thing that comes up in these interactions.
“I still get the, ‘I hate it when you beat us in 2022 when you were at Vandy.’ I still get that every now and then,” he said. “When I first came here, I was known as The Vandy Guy. I didn’t even have a name. Now I’m known as Ray Davis, the Kentucky football player.”
During our chat, we spent plenty of time talking about his exceptional rookie season that ended in the AFC Championship Game. If you ever wanted to know how NFL players survive that bitter cold, Ray Davis was kind enough to share their secret cheat code.
