Former Kentucky star AJ Reed has retired from baseball

Former Kentucky Baseball star AJ Reed has decided to call it quits. According to the Houston Chronicle, the 26-year-old first baseman retired from baseball earlier this month, an announcement that slipped under the radar due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After five years with the Houston Astros, which included several long stints at Triple-A, Reed landed with the Chicago White Sox on a waiver claim in July 2019. Unfortunately, he was cut from the 40-man roster in August. He finishes his pro career having played in 62 MLB games (48 with the Astros, 14 with the White Sox) with a .149 average, four home runs and 12 RBI. He played for seven teams in the minors with a .281 average, 136 home runs, and 480 RBI over 589 games.
Reed was drafted in the second round by the Astros in 2014 after a standout career at Kentucky. During his time in Lexington, he won all five national player of the year awards, including the Golden Spikes, and became the first player in SEC history to lead the conference in home runs and pitching victories.
