Former Kentucky WBB forward Zennia Thomas enters transfer portal
It’s only Tuesday, but it’s already been a busy week for the Kentucky women’s basketball program. On Monday, head coach Kyra Elzy was fired after four seasons in charge. This morning, the Wildcats’ leading scorer and rebounder, Ajae Petty, announced that she has entered her name into the transfer portal.
The news didn’t stop there. Earlier this afternoon, sophomore Zennia Thomas, who was a member of the team to start the 2023-24 season before being dismissed in January, has also put her name into the portal.
Thomas’ high school coach at Warrensville Heights in Ohio, Ourtney Bryant, made the announcement through social media. Thomas retweeted the post on X/Twitter.
In seven games played this season for Kentucky before getting dismissed, Thomas averaged two points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per outing. She started only one game this season while shooting just 28.6 percent from the field. Her final game came on Nov. 25 against Cincinnati.

Thomas was initially suspended indefinitely for “disciplinary matters” following that game against Cincinnati and was ultimately dismissed a couple of months later.
“We hold our players to a high standard at Kentucky,” Then-head coach Kyra Elzy said in UK’s press release. “Unfortunately, when someone does not consistently meet those standards, I have to make the tough decision to dismiss them from the program. We wish Zennia and her family nothing but the best moving forward.”
Standing at 6-foot-2, Thomas was a late find for Elzy out of the high school ranks. Thomas played in 10 games as a freshman where she was an end-of-the-bench player who averaged just 4.4 minutes per contest. She chose Kentucky over the likes of Arizona State and Purdue.
