While Kentucky women’s basketball had a lot of inconsistencies and struggles last season, one of the more dependable players on the team was Amiya Jenkins. Unfortunately, Jenkins entered the transfer portal following the end of the season.

The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 7.5 PPG and 3.3 RPG last season while starting in 17 games. Being a Lexington native, it seemed like Kentucky would be the school for her. Coming out of high school, Jenkins chose the ‘Cats over Tennessee, Penn State, and Virginia Tech, among others.

Yes, Kenny Brooks originally recruited Jenkins out of high school and she strongly considered taking her talents to Blacksburg. One would think that, despite entering the transfer portal, Jenkins would have a return to Kentucky in mind. However, she sent out a “thank you” post to the BBN just a week ago with her sights set elsewhere.

Jenkins is one of two former ‘Cats (the other being Jordy Griggs) who has still yet to announce where she’ll be playing next season. Given her resume, On3’s Talia Goodman has Jenkins ranked among the top 10 players still available in the transfer portal.

The former four-star recruit (ESPN) is listed alongside players like of Janiah Barker (Texas A&M), Ruby Whithorn (Clemson), and Tess Heal (Santa Clara) — all very talented players in their own respect.

Wherever Jenkins decides to play next season, she’ll be able to make an immediate impact. Last season, she proved that she could be a solid contributor on a power conference team. If she wants to be the player at a smaller, mid-major school, she could probably take on that role too.

Best of luck, Mimi.
