Former UK Wide Receivers Chauncey Magwood, Chris Lewis Find Transfer Destinations
As players arrive in Lexington via the transfer portal, departing players from the University of Kentucky are finding new college football homes. The latest are a pair of wide receivers, Chauncey Magwood and Chris Lewis. Lewis will return closer to his home to play for Jon Sumrall at Troy, while Magwood will be taking his talents to UCF.
It’s the second straight offseason a former Wildcat has made the move from Lexington to Orlando. EDGE KD McDaniel transferred to UCF following the Citrus Bowl. Joey Gatewood teamed back up with Gus Malzahn prior to the 2021 season, but switched positions from quarterback to wide receiver and has since re-entered the transfer portal.
Chauncey Magwood played in 12 games for the Wildcats in 2022, finishing the regular season with 104 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions, good for 14.9 yards per catch. His two biggest games of his career came against Florida and South Carolina this season, finishing with 47 yards on two receptions vs. the Gators and 37 yards on two receptions vs. the Gamecocks.
A former high school quarterback, Chauncey Magwood was a three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class according to the On3 Consensus. The 6-foot athlete from Leesburg, GA picked UK over Florida State, Louisville, South Carolina and Arkansas. He reportedly visited Fayetteville prior to picking UCF.

Chris Lewis was a two-sport star at Pleasant Grove (AL) in 2021, named Birmingham Athlete of the Year by Al.com. The former top-500 player was a four-star prospect in some recruiting services. After playing sparingly in his redshirt season, he improved over the summer and caught two passes for 22 yards, including his first career touchdown, in 2022. Injuries forced him to the sideline and the crowded wide receiver room ultimately pushed him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
So far 11 Kentucky football players have entered the transfer portal this offseason. IOL John Young is the only other one who has found a new college destination, announcing on Sunday a transfer to Miami (OH).
