Former Wildcat Dontaie Allen is back in the Transfer Portal

Dontaie Allen was a long way from Pendleton County during the 2024-25 college basketball season. The former Kentucky Mr. Basketball is looking for a new place to call home to wrap up his collegiate career.
Pete Nakos reports that Allen is leaving Laramie to enter the transfer portal after one season at Wyoming. The 6-foot-6 swingman averaged 7.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He started in 17 games for the Cowboys, but only shot 30.9% from three, down around 10 percentage points from the season prior.
Allen should have a sixth and final season of eligibility remaining. He spent his first two in Lexington, then transferred to Western Kentucky for two more. His first season with the Top was statistically his best, tallying 9.3 points per contest in 11 starts.
Before he began his lengthy collegiate career in Lexington, he was the 2019 Kentucky Mr. Basketball. He averaged more than 42 points that season for Pendleton County, but only played in 13 games before a torn ACL ended his season. He concluded his prep career with 3,255 points, ranking 11th in Kentucky high school history.

Dontaie Allen Needs to Complete his Career Arc and Play for Mississippi State
The in-state star struggled to live up to the hype, with two exceptions. Kentucky fans clamored for Allen during the awful 9-win campaign in 2021. Calipari had tried just about everything except playing the kid from Kentucky. Maybe he could be the solution to that team’s very big problems.
That’s exactly what happened in Starkville. Cal got ejected, opening the door for an assistant to let Allen get some legitimate action. That’s when he proceeded to knock down 7-11 threes and score 23 points in a double-overtime win. Allen was good for 23 points when the Cats played Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament, but his potential game-winning three fell short.
If Allen turned into Superman every time he played against Mississippi State, shouldn’t he take up residence in Starkville? He’s probably not on Chris Jans’ radar, but The Dentist needs to be willing to try an idea that’s so crazy, it just might work.
