Former Kentucky Wildcat Finds Transfer Portal Home

The first weekend of official visits during the spring transfer portal is a busy one. Players are hustling to secure a spot before a scholarship is taken. One former Kentucky Wildcat didn’t waste any time.
Pete Nakos reports that Wallace Unamba has signed with Virginia. The offensive lineman transferred to Kentucky in December, but was ready for a new home after spring practice. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

A 6-foot-6, 335-pound offensive lineman, he began his career in the junior college ranks. After earning NJCAA All-American honors during his three-year stint at Kilgore, he bounced around between schools, logging one season at Florida Atlantic and one season at New Mexico. Unamba started in ten games last fall for the Lobos at right tackle and did not allow a sack.
Unamba appears to have had aspirations to play offensive tackle. When he signed with Kentucky, Shiyazh Pete was not a part of the equation. During spring practice, Unamba ran with the twos, rotating between guard and offensive tackle. Even though he would have given the Cats a nice versatile weapon to rotate at multiple positions, he clearly did not like the fit. Now he will end his career playing in the ACC.
