Former Wildcat Ryan Timmons beats 'The Freeze' in a foot race

by:Jack Pilgrim07/20/19

If you’ve watched and followed the MLB closely over the last few years, you may have heard of “The Freeze” of the Atlanta Braves.

If you haven’t, the short story is that Atlanta decided to hire former college sprinter Nigel Talton to race Braves fans during games. The catch? The Freeze isn’t allowed to run until the fan gets a massive head start.

Yet time and time again, eager fans soon realize that The Freeze always wins.

Always.

That is until The Freeze meets a fellow former Division 1 athlete himself in the form of former Kentucky wide receiver Ryan Timmons.

Timmons, who played at Kentucky from 2013-2016, was chosen to race against the speedy fan-favorite in Atlanta last night.

And instead of obliterating his opponents like usual, The Freeze came home with a loss.

A former four-star recruit out of Franklin County, Timmons finished his Kentucky career with 1348 total yards from scrimmage (10.2 yards per touch) and five touchdowns.

In high school, the former Wildcat rushed for 1,306 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior and caught 33 passes for 1,004 yards and 16 touchdowns. As the team’s lead kick-returner, opponents kicked off to him only three times his final year of high school, and he ran all three of them back for touchdowns.

Outside of the football field, Timmons was also a five-time state champion in track, where he won the 100-meter dash as a sophomore, junior, and senior, along with the 200-meter state title as a junior and senior.

The Freeze didn’t stand a chance.
