Freshman Tight End Jakob Dixon Leaves the Kentucky Football Team
Only a few weeks after moving into the UK dorms, a freshman tight end is packing his bags. Jakob Dixon is leaving the Kentucky football team before ever suiting up to practice for the Wildcats.
KSR can confirm the news Justin Rowland had first on Cats Illustrated.
A product Louisville’s Pleasure Ridge Park High School, Jakob Dixon was an under the radar prospect when he camped at Kentucky last summer. Typically involved in basketball and track and field during camp season, he blew away the Kentucky coaching staff with impressive test results. A week later he returned, repeated the performance and earned a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.
He received some interest from Vanderbilt, Louisville and Purdue, but did not waste too much time before committing to Kentucky. Jakob Dixon was recruited by Vince Marrow, joining Tanner LeMaster and Khamari Anderson as one of three tight ends in Kentucky’s 2023 recruiting class.
A 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect, Jakob Dixon was a three-star recruit that fit the build for a tweener. He’s larger than most receivers, yet faster than most tight ends. He was slotted to fill the flex tight end role another JCPS product, Izayah Cummings, carved out in 2021 that the Wildcats are using to attract Cleveland Glenville tight end Damarion Witten to Lexington.

Despite the premature departure, Vince Marrow still has a number of tight ends at his disposal this fall. Along with the two newcomers and Cummings, Josh Kattus and Jordan Dingle return after sensational freshman campaigns, while Brenden Bates is back for a Super Senior season.
It’s unclear why Jakob Dixon was ready to leave Lexington so quickly. Best of luck to the Kentucky kid in his future endeavors.
