Paris High School Football plays a significant part in Kentucky high school football. The Greyhounds won state championships in 1973, 81, and 82. The list of alumni lists like a Who’s Who in the Commonwealth: Basil Hayden, Blanton Collier, and Bill Arnsparger.

The Kroger KSR Game of the Week has traveled to similar communities across the Bluegrass, like Mayfield and Corbin. We are excited to announce that we will be in Paris on Friday night when the Greyhounds host Bishop Brossart.

Paris Greyhounds

The Greyhounds are off to a perfect 5-0 start. Coach Tyquan Rice’s team is averaging 40.4 points per game and only giving up 12.2 for an average winning margin of 28.2. Freshman quarterback Julius Gregory leads the offense. He’s passed for nine touchdowns and averages 145 yards per contest. Running back Jayden Holman tops the team in rushing after running for 476 yards off 59 carries. He’s also scored touchdowns on the ground.

Jakari Ransom’s 22 receptions for 255 yards and two scores pace the air attack. He’s also intercepted three passes as a defensive back. Elijah Webb is another two-way starter and has racked up 285 receiving yards and 2 scores. He’s also picked off two passes on defense.

The Paris defense has been dominant. The Greyhounds are currently ranked No. 1 in 1A with 19 QB sacks. It also lists second against the run after allowing just 64 yards per game. Preston Cowan is the team’s leading tackler with 45 stops. He’s also recorded 14 tackles for loss and four sacks. Zian Webb is 1A’s leader in QB sacks after registering six through five games.

Bishop Brossart Mustangs

The Mustangs are 2-3 and coming off a tough loss to Lloyd Memorial. Coach Paul Wiggins, Jr.’s team hails from northern Kentucky and will travel to Paris on Friday night. They are averaging 20 points per game while giving up 27. The Mustangs average 153 rush yards per contest. The defense is stingy against the pass after allowing 81 yards per contest. The Mustangs are ranked fourth in 1A with 13 QB sacks and fifth in the classification with seven interceptions.

Quarterback Keegan Gulley has attempted 93 passes in 2023. He’s accounted for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Cameron Mandel is averaging 95 rush yards per game and 6.6 yards per carry. He has scored five touchdowns off 72 attempts. Luke Schroeder’s 13 receptions are tops on the team and have resulted in 112 yards and one touchdown. He’s also the team’s leading tackler with 34.

Joining Mandel on defense is Quinten Tischner, who has racked up 31 stops and 3 TFLs. Joe Schroeder’s 3.5 QB sacks are the most on the team. Nicholas Cozzi has grabbed three interceptions, and Alex Amin has added to. Kicker Tyler Smith has nailed two field goals in 2023.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

We can’t wait for Friday night. See you in Paris.
