Georgia Amoore named to Preseason All-SEC First Team
Kentucky Women’s Basketball point guard Georgia Amoore was named to the Preseason All-SEC First Team on Monday. Media around the country votes on all SEC preseason awards. Additionally, those same voters predicted Kentucky would finish eighth in the SEC this season.
Amoore, one of Kenny Brooks‘ most decorated Virginia Tech transfers, played four years as a Hokie, her fourth being an All-American season. As a senior at Virginia Tech, she averaged 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per game. She also ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game and shot 41.9 percent from the field. Amoore made 85 three-pointers last season, which put her second in the ACC and 20th in the nation. Those 85 threes were the fourth-most in a season in Virginia Tech history.
Amoore set a career-high 16 assists against Houston Christian last year on Nov. 16 and set a career-high 39 points against Virginia on March 3. Her points were the most scored by a player in the ACC all season and marked the second-highest by a Virginia Tech player in program history.
In her four years at Virginia Tech, Amoore became the all-time leader in career assists (656), average minutes played (34.3), and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8). She scored a total of 1,853 points in her career as a Hokie.

Early line for The Game revealed
In April, Amoore announced her commitment to Kentucky following the movement of her coach Kenny Brooks. Since then, the All-American has been busy. She played for her home country, Australia, and attended Kelsey Plum’s Dawg Class. She also attended the Nike Academy during the offseason.
ESPN projected Amoore as a No. 8 overall WNBA draft pick last year before she made her decision to come to Lexington. Currently, ESPN has the guard at No. 12, just behind a pair of SEC players: Rori Harmon (Texas), and Te-Hina Paopao (South Carolina). Paopao was also named to SEC First Team while Harmon made the Second Team.
Fans are undoubtedly excited about Amoore at Kentucky, and it’s clear to see why. The ‘Cats will be in action on Monday, Nov. 4 against USC Upstate at the Historic Memorial Coliseum for the regular season debut. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m. EST on the SEC Network+. Fortunately, with record-breaking seasons at Virginia Tech, Amoore might just be able to do the same at Kentucky.
