Kentucky’s win over Purdue may look like a lopsided 30-point victory on the stat sheet, but the reality is that this was a very competitive game, especially early on, and the Cats may not have won if Georgia Amoore didn’t play at the level she did against the Boilermakers.

Amoore scored 21 points on the night, hitting eight of her 15 shots along the way. The former All-American had 13 points at the half, and that 13th point earned her a very special milestone.

With 3:48 to go in the second quarter, Amoore would knock down a fading jumper from the top of key, and with that bucket, she would become the 7th active player in women’s college basketball to score 2,000 career points.

Kenny Brooks had to give Amoore her flowers following the win.

“Especially proud of this young lady to my left — scoring her 2,000th point which is unbelievable,” Brooks said. “For anybody that wants to say that ‘well, she got a fifth year’, she didn’t get a full compliment of games her first year. She only played like 25, and so to do it in her 10th game of her fifth year is remarkable. I’ve been fortunate enough to see every one of her points, and it’s been a joy. So, 2,000 points, pushing 800 assists — what it is — it’s been a remarkable, remarkable journey and run for her, for us.”

Miss 2,000 spoke on what her achievement means to her personally.

“I don’t think you realize how big it is until you get it,” Amoore noted. “Just looking at the five years that I’ve had, I would’ve never really thought it [would happen], to be honest. I came in, and I fouled out every game. Just was not a polished product at all, and I’m still not polished, but I think that everything we’ve put in is — I say it all the time, he’s never steered me wrong.”

“Like, everything we have worked on has been incredible,” she added. “Even this year, like maybe scoring-wise, I might not be the best from three right now, but my God, I feel so confident in my mid-range game, and that’s what we spent all summer doing.”
