Two of the three commitments that Kenny Brooks has gotten this offseason have come from Conference USA — WKU transfer Josie Gilvin and Liberty transfer Asia Boone. Of course, with both of them having spent a couple of years together in the same league, they’ve squared off a time or two (five times, actually).

Boone and the Flames boasted a 4-1 record over Gilvin and the Lady Toppers over the past two seasons, but every game was highly competitive. Several came down to the wire.

Their last matchup, which occurred on March 8th, was probably the best one. It was a 74-70 victory for Liberty on their home floor. Boone had 15 points on 4-7 shooting from beyond the arc, while Gilvin recorded 31 points, seven steals and six rebounds for WKU. Gilvin went 13-19 overall from the field and 5-9 from three-point range in the loss.

Here’s a brief history of their head-to-head matchups:

2023-24

Jan. 6 (@ Liberty): 68-66 W for WKU

  • Asia Boone: 9 PTS, 2 REBS
  • Josie Gilvin: 3 PTS, 3 ASTS, 2 REBS

Mar. 9 (@ WKU): 84-77 W for Liberty)

  • Asia Boone: 9 PTS, 4 REBS, 3 ASTS
  • Josie Gilvin: 15 PTS, 2 STLS

Mar. 13 (CUSA Tournament Quarterfinals): 62-59 W for Liberty

  • Asia Boone: 17 PTS, 5 REBS, 2 ASTS
  • Josie Gilvin: 3 PTS, 3 REBS, 2 ASTS

2024-25

Jan. 2 (@ WKU): 77-66 W for Liberty

  • Asia Boone: 12 PTS, 6 REBS, 4 ASTS
  • Josie Gilvin: 4 PTS, 8 REBS, 2 STLS, 2 BLKS

Mar. 8 (@ Liberty): 74-70 W for Liberty

  • Asia Boone: 15 points, 2 ASTS, 2 REBS
  • Josie Gilvin: 31 PTS, 7 STLS, 6 REBS, 2 ASTS

Now, the former All-CUSA stars unite in Lexington as they finally get to play for the same team — the Kentucky Wildcats — together.
